The distress tolerance module is an essential component of DBT, which focuses on helping individuals manage overwhelming emotions and distressing situations. In this module, you will learn strategies to tolerate and cope with distress without resorting to harmful behaviours. There are several skills taught as a part of this module. These skills are often called “crisis survival skills” because they help a person navigate a (perceived or actual) crisis (Linehan, 2014). Through this module, you will gain skills to navigate difficult situations without making them worse or engaging in destructive behaviours. You will learn mindfulness techniques, distress tolerance skills, and crisis survival strategies to help you build resilience and emotional strength in the face of adversity. By the end of this module, you will have a toolbox of coping skills designed to help you manage distress effectively.
